Our work shops provide us with the facilities to undertake anything from servicing work on all models from the 1920s to mid 1990s, to full chassis, engine and transmission overhauls, with particular knowledge in pre-war cars especially Derby Bentleys. Our paint shop facilities allow us to undertake jobs from the smallest local repairs to full body restorations and accident damage repairs. We usually have a small selection of Rolls Royce and Bentleys for sale. These cars are carefully selected by us and are typically cars we have known and maintained previously. We have sufficient storage to ensure that all customers' cars are kept inside during their stay with us. We also have the facility to offer a limited amount of winter storage for vehicles.
History - Our business here in Goudhurst is now entering its 50th year and is now third generation. Started by Carl Sargeant Senior as a petrol forecourt in 1959, he built the first of our workshops and went on to build his first of two Derby Bentley sports specials which set the scene for the business to develop into the Rolls Royce and Bentley Specialists that we are today.
He was joined in 1964 by his son Martin and the business began to grow. Martin had great enthusiasm to expand the facilities and build on the knowledge of Rolls Royce and Bentleys passed onto him from his father.
Martin and Janet in 1966 with their first joint restoration - Joined by his wife Janet, through the 1970s and 80s Martin took the business from strength to strength. In the late 80s Martin's three sons left school and all joined the business and continued the family tradition.
Three generations at Goudhurst in 1995 - from left, Carl Senior, Carl Junior and Martin Sargeant Having learned to fly, Martin developed an interest in old aircraft and restored a North American Harvard here at Goudhurst.
He went on to fly this aircraft for many years, maintaining it himself. In 2000 Martin was given the opportunity to recommission and fly the Spitfire Mk XI PL983 which he undertook and most enjoyed.
Martin overhauling the tail wheel assembly for Spitfire PL983 in 2000 Sadly though, Martin died at it's controls just a year later in an accident in Rouen France on the 4th June 2001. His legacy however, continues...
